SAN ANTONIO, Texas - University of Dayton junior Faye Barhorst was awarded American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Honorable Mention All-America honors on Wednesday at the NCAA Division I Championships. Barhorst has been named an Honorable Mention selection in each of the past two years and is the first Flyer volleyball player to garner multiple All-America honors.

The 6-3 middle blocker from Fort Loramie, Ohio was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year as well as the Most Outstanding Player of the Atlantic 10 Championships this season as she led Dayton to its third straight A-10 Championship and berth in the NCAA Tournament. Barhorst led the Atlantic 10 in hitting percentage with the second-best mark in school history at .396, which also ranked 12th nationally. She also had 48 solo blocks and 126 block assists which were the second and third most in UD single-season history respectively.

Barhorst began her career by being named the 2003 AVCA Northeast Regional Freshman of the Year. Since then she has garnered AVCA Honorable Mention All-America honors each of the past two seasons. Barhorst is the fourth player overall to earn All-America honors and the third in the last three years. Ann Meyers was tabbed as First Team pick in 1979 while also winning the Broderick Cup. A-10 Players of the Year Erin Treadway (2003) and Christy Utnage (2004) also earned Honorable Mention honors to conclude their Flyer careers. Overall, 10 UD players have been named to the AVCA All-Region team all-time with Barhorst being just the fourth to earn multiple honors.

After just three seasons, Barhorst is Dayton's all-time leader in both hitting percentage (.370) and solo blocks (134). She also ranks third all-time in block assists (379) and fourth in kills (1,340). Barhorst has also been honored by the Atlantic 10 Conference with 13 weekly awards including three A-10 Player of the Week awards this season. She was also named the 2003 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year and to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference team in 2004.

Barhorst led the Flyers to a 24-11 record this season and their third consecutive berth in the NCAA Tournament. Dayton also became just the fourth team in conference history to win three consecutive Atlantic 10 Championships. UD also collected a 19-match winning streak during the year, which was the 11th-longest in the nation at any point this season and the second longest in school history.
