The Dayton women's tennis team picked up a convincing 6-1 victory over South Dakota on Tuesday in its second of three spring break matches in Orlando, FL. The Flyers swept the doubles point and won five singles matches in straight sets to improve to 5-10 this spring. UD was uncontested in doubles. Seniors Allysa Detroy and Megan Gray led the way at No. 1 with an 8-3 win over Rijalda Zejnic and Maggie Peters. At No. 2, junior Nikki Dzubay and freshman Kelly O'Connell blanked Jenny Lewellen and Melanie Rockne, 8-0. Freshman Laina Grote and sophomore Molly Mathews rounded out the doubles scoring with an 8-2 defeat of Ashley Waltman and Janea Hagen at No. 3. In singles, Mathews was spotless as she cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 over Hagen. The middle of the Flyer lineup was near perfect as well. Gray, Glankler and Dzubay each gave up only one game. Gray won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 over Peters, Glankler topped Rockne 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4, and Dzubay tallied a 6-1, 6-0 win over Waltman at No. 5. Detroy added a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles. The Flyers will wrap up their spring break matches on Wednesday against Siena at 12 p.m. ET. |
