Nikki Dzubay cruised to a 6-1, 6-4 singles win on Monday

Results

The women's tennis team was clipped by Long Island, 4-3, on Monday morning in its first of three spring break matches in Orlando, FL. The Flyers won the doubles point to begin the match, but were edged by the Blackbirds in singles. Junior Nikki Dzubay led the way for the Flyers with a pair of victories on the day. Dayton dropped to 4-9 on the season.

Dayton got on the scoreboard first by winning two doubles matches. Dzubay teamed with freshman Kelly O'Connell at No. 2 to defeat Ashley Harvey and Amy Hosotsuji, 8-3. At No. 3, freshman Laina Grote and sophomore Molly Mathews outlasted Stephanie Elie and Dera Lahens, 9-7.

The Flyers also tallied a two singles wins. Senior Megan Gray downed H'Ann Johnson, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 3 singles, while Dzubay breezed past Dera Lahanes at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-4.

UD will try to rebound on Tuesday morning against South Dakota. Match time is slated for 11:30 a.m. ET.
