CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The University of Dayton Flyers fell in game two of their doubleheader against the Charlotte 49ers 7-4. The Flyers ripped eight hits including 2-for-3 performances from Molly Meyer and Emily Stegeman. Dayton allowed 14 hits in 28 at-bats in the second contest behind a 3-for-3 performance by the 49ers Keri Palma. Dayton is now 11-10, 0-2 in the Atlantic 10 while Charlotte moves to 17-16 and 2-0 in the A-10. Katie Jordan and Meyer also combined for a pair of doubles in the contest. Erin Lafayette was saddled with the loss. Her record is now 5-4 after striking out one batter in the game. The Flyers opened up the scoring again for the 14th time this season off of a double by Jordan that scored Lafayette and Stegeman adding another run before finishing the top of the second 3-0. Charlotte answered back with two runs of their own in the second to bring them within one of the Flyer lead. The 49ers then captured the lead in the fourth inning with two more runs and never looked back. UD tried to make a late rally at the hands of a solo shot over the centerfield wall by Blair Crabtree, but in the end the Flyers could not complete the comeback. The Flyers make their home debut on Monday at Athletes in Action Field in Xenia, Ohio against IUPUI. Dayton will play in a doubleheader with the opening pitch scheduled for 4 p.m. For more on the Flyers visit www.DaytonFlyers.com, the official web site of Flyer Softball. |
