Player Profile

Position:
Assistant Coach

Experience:
1st Season

Alma Mater:
Clarke ('04)

Christine Steines joined the Flyer softball staff in August 2007 as an assistant coach. Steines came to UD from Clarke College where she served as an assistant coach under head coach Cara Clark.

"Having Christine join our coaching staff is a great addition to our softball program," said Clark. "She brings a genuine passion for coaching and the sport of softball. Her skills and knowledge will be a tremendous asset to our team," she added.

In her two seasons as assistant coach at Clarke, Steines helped coach the Crusaders to back-to-back 20-plus win seasons. Among her responsibilities at Clarke were skills instruction, on-field coaching, team travel and recruiting. Steines was also instrumental in the development and implementation of Clarke's successful hitting leagues and softball camps.

Prior to her two-year stint with the Crusaders, Steines also served as a graduate assistant softball coach at Otterbein College. At Otterbein she helped with recruiting and revamped the team's strength and conditioning program.

Her softball coaching career started at Stephen Hempstead High School where she served as the head junior varsity coach and the assistant varsity coach.

In addition to coaching, Steines also runs private hitting and catching clinics and serves as a member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

She was a four-year varsity letterwinner in softball at Clarke as a catcher and is a three-time, First-Team Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference honoree. She served as team captain and was voted most valuable player three years in a row.

During her career, Steines competed in two NCAA Division III tournaments and also helped her team win the NIIC Conference Championship in both 2003 and 2004. In addition to her success on the field, she was an All-American Scholar Athlete and served as president of the NCAA Student Athletic Association Committee.

A native of Dubuque, Iowa, Steines earned her Masters degree in Business Administration from Clarke College.
