DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton women's soccer team celebrated the 2007 season with the team's annual awards banquet Saturday afternoon. The highlight of the banquet was the announcement of the Stacey Martin Memorial Award which was awarded to junior Amanda Gallow for the 2007 season. "I am extremely happy to add Amanda Gallow to the list of outstanding Flyers who have been recognized by their teammates and coaches as the winner of our most prestigious team honor, the annual Stacey Martin Leadership Award," said head coach Mike Tucker. Gallow is a two-time Academic All-Atlantic 10 honoree and boasts a 3.91 GPA as a pre-physical therapy major. In addition, she was named to the 2007 CoSIDA Academic All-District Third Team in November. During the fall campaign, she posted two goals and one assist for Dayton. "Amanda provides a wonderful example for what a student-athlete should be. Her work ethic and commitment in the classroom and on the field, her dedication to being a great teammate and to the success of our team are without question. Amanda joins an impressive list of former Flyers who have demonstrated the same qualities as our beloved teammate in whose name this award is presented. Our thanks to Amanda and to all of our past winners for their leadership roles in elevating the women's soccer program to what it has become today," Tucker added. The award is in honor of Stacey Martin, a former UD women's soccer player who passed away on March 28, 1998 during an exhibition match at Baujan Field. In her memory, the Flyers established the team leadership award in her name. The recipient of the award is selected by a vote of the team. |
