Junior Jeanna Heink and sophomore Lydia Caldwell earned spots on the 2008 Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference women's rowing team. Heink, who earned a spot on last year's A-10 All-Academic Team, is a member of UD's Lightweight 8 boat. She is a five-time member of the Dean's List showcasing a 3.896 grade point average while majoring in chemical engineering. Caldwell, the only sophomore on the team, is a member of the Varsity 8 boat that finished in 4th at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Women's Rowing Championship. The St. Louis, Mo. native and Biology major has made the Dean's List three times with a cumulative grade point average of 3.92. This is the first time since the 2005 season UD has had more than one A-10 All-Academic Team selection. Academic success is nothing new for the Flyers. Last week the women's rowing team was one of seven athletics programs at the University of Dayton were honored by the NCAA with public recognition awards for their latest Academic Progress Rate (APR). The voting was conducted among the conference's sports information directors. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average and be an important part of the team. |
