COLUMBUS - The Dayton Flyers enjoyed a strong team showing against the Ohio State Buckeyes in their first race of the 2007-08 campaign.

The Varsity 8 of Kate Athmer (cox), Lisa Pedevillano, Clare Hubbard, Marcie Shockey, Maria Otte, Nicki Bianco, Grace Doepker, Annie Dunn, and Melissa Brandfass beat OSU's Varsity by 17 seconds, finishing with a time of 11:57 over a 3,500 meter course.

Dayton's Junior Varsity 8 had an impressive showing with a time of 12:08 - six seconds faster OSU's Varsity 8 and 19 seconds faster than OSU's Junior Varsity 8. Dayton's JV 8 included Caitlin Tencate (cox), Susan Leopold, Jeanna Heink, Anna Heink, Fiona Martin, Allison Gates, Allyson Holsinger, Lydia Caldwell, and Rachel Thrun. Dayton's Third Va 8 also was in this race, finishing with a time of 13:09.

In their first race ever for Dayton, the Novice 8 finished just three seconds behind OSU's boat with a time of 12:47. Dayton's 2nd Novice 8 finished with at time of 14:47.

Held on the Scioto River in Columbus, the race was done in head race format - meaning one boat travels down the course at a time and the winner is determined by time to complete the course rather than by finish order.

This dual wraps up the fall racing season. The team will remain on the water as weather permits before moving indoors to train for the winter.
