FLYER WOMEN'S GOLF BEGINS 2008 SPRING SEASON

UD had three players who finished with a stroke average below 81 in the fall season

Feb. 29, 2008

Coming off of three second-place finishes in the fall, the Dayton Flyers women's golf team begins the 2008 spring season at the New Wave Communications Racer Classic in Murray, Ky.

Hosted by Murray State on March 3 and 4 at the Miller Memorial Golf Course, the Flyers look to continue their success from the fall 2007 campaign. UD finished in second place in three out of the five fall tournaments the team participated in.

In their last outing back in October, the Flyers finished in second at the 2007 UD Invitational. Sophomore Katie Gallagher was the individual medalist at the invitational. Gallagher tallied a score of 73 in round one and a 78 in the second round to finish with a 151 overall.

Freshman Julie Pouliquen led the Flyers in stroke average at 78.9 while Gallagher finished the fall season with a 79.7 average, good for second best on the team. Sophomore Katie Dempsey played all nine rounds during the fall and tallied an average of 80.2.

This will be the first of five 2008 spring events for UD.

It's been two years since Dayton competed in the New Wave Communications Racer Classic. Last year the Flyers did not participate in the invitational due to inclement weather.
