DAYTON, Ohio - University of Dayton freshman Matt Lemon has been named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division I Men's All-Region Cross Country team. Lemon, who finished 24th at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on November 10, clocked in at 31:33 en route to a school record 10K time at the meet leading UD men's cross country team to its best-ever regional placing (16 of 30). The Bowling Green, Ohio native was two places away from qualifying for the National Championships. His time of 31:33 was 16 seconds from the last national qualifier in. It is the closest the Dayton men's cross country program has ever been to sending an individual to the National Championship meet. Lemon established a new freshman 8K mark of 24:53 at the Greater Louisville Classic on September 29th, and led the team in all four meets since. He was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on two separate occasions leading into the Atlantic 10 Championships where he placed eighth overall in a time of 25:54, taking home both All-Conference Team and Most Outstanding Rookie honors. All-Region honors are given to an athlete who finishes in the top 25 in their respective regional meet. |
