PHILADELPHIA, PA - Despite winning the doubles point to start the match, the ninth-seeded Dayton Flyers were defeated by Rhode Island, 4-3, in first round action at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Tennis Championship in Philadelphia, PA. Sophomore Michael Rohana was a standout performer for UD with a win at No. 1 singles.

The loss- which was Dayton's second 4-3 setback to the Rams this season- dropped the Flyers to 8-15 overall and 1-5 against conference opponents.

Dayton's early 1-0 lead came courtesy of two doubles wins. Sophomore Matt Sherman and senior James O'Connell posted an 8-3 victory over Jared Dorfman and Jeff Cote at No. 1. Juniors David Peyton and Antonio Rodriguez defeated Adam Gart and James McGuire 8-5 at No. 2.

In singles play, Rohana and freshman Bryce Warnock each tallied straight-sets wins. Rohana topped Dorfman at No. 1, 7-5, 6-3, while Warnock dominated AJ Nelson at No. 6, 6-1, 6-2.
