Head Coach Drew Tyrer announced the signing of Michael Oberschmidt to the Dayton Flyers men's golf program on Tuesday. Tyrer, looking to add to a squad that has only juniors and freshmen, brings in the highly touted Oberschmidt to fine tune the lineup. Oberschmidt earned a First Team Division II All-Ohio award and was the runner up at the Ohio High School State Division ll Tournament. "We are delighted to have Michael join the UD Men's Golf family," Tyrer said. "He is a tremendous athlete and has shown vast improvement in his golf game over the past few years. Michael has great composure and patience on the golf course, which is not easy to teach. He is a proven champion and he will continue to excel because of his work ethic." Oberschmidt, who is from Cincinnati, Ohio and went to Archbishiop McNicholas High School, took first place at the AAU National Junior Golf Championship and qualified for the Callaway Junior World Golf Championship. He was also the Greater Catholic League Player of the Year and first team selection in 2007 with the lowest average score in the Cincinnati area. For Tyrer this is his third recruitng class at Dayton. Last year he brought in Zach Glassman, Ian Gilley, Jeff Hodapp and Chris Woeste. Those four are among the team's top six in scoring average this season. The Flyers finished the fall season with three consecutive finishes in the Top Eight. UD will return to action to start the spring campaign at the Samford Intercollegiate on March 10. |
