WINTER GARDEN, Fla. - Junior Rob Chappell won the 2008 Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship after posting a four-under par 68 in the third and final round.

Chappell's 205 total score helped the Dayton Flyers to a second place finish at the tournament, the best in the program's history. Prior to this season, UD's best finish in the A-10's was fourth.

In addition to medaling, Chappell was selected as a First Team, All-Atlantic 10 selection.

Chappell won his second career tournament after shooting 64-73-68, winning by just one stroke. In round three Chappell bounced back after a bogey on his first hole to net five birdies in the remaining 17 holes to capture the individual championship.

The first place finish by Chappell was also the best individual placement by a Flyer at the A-10 Championship since Matt Pagnotto came in fourth during the 2000 tournament.

Success at the A-10 Tournament has been nothing new for Chappell. The junior from Cincinnati, who also won the 2005 Crowne Plaza Colonial Classic as a freshman, has shot a 70 or below in three of his previous six rounds at the conference championship.

But Chappell wasn't the only Top 10 finisher for the Flyers. Freshman Chris Woeste tied for eighth overall thanks to a final round of 68. Woeste, who enjoyed scores of 70 and 76 in the first two rounds, netted a birdie and an eagle on holes eight and 10. After recording back-to-back bogeys on 11 and 12, Woeste recovered to birdie three of his last five holes.

In fact Woeste is just the fifth UD golfer to place in the Top 10 at the A-10 Championship. Along with Chappell and Pagnotto, Tim Skufca tied for seventh in 2005 and Adam Myers earned a 10th place finish in 2004.

Woeste was also selected to the All-Atlantic 10 First Team and named the conference's Rookie of the Year. Woeste is the second Flyer in three years to earn the Rookie honor (Chappell accomplished the feat in 2006).

Freshman Zach Glassman tied for 25th after shooting a third round 78. He shot a 71 in the first two rounds, but struggled to find his rhythm in day three. However, Glassman closes the 2007-08 season with 15 consecutive rounds below an 80.

Not far behind in a tie for 27th overall was freshman Jeff Hodapp with an overall score of 221. Hodapp played at a consistent level all throughout the tournament shooting rounds of 74, 73 and a third round tally of 74.

Freshman Ian Gilley rounded out the group with a 79 in round three. He shot an 80 and 79 in the first two rounds and completed the tournament in 52nd.

Dayton finished with a team score of 860, the best for a three-day tournament this season. UD was 23 strokes behind the fifth-ranked Charlotte 49ers who won the tournament for the third season in a row.

This was the final event for Dayton in the 2007-08 campaign. However, the future looks bright for the Flyers as Dayton returns all nine golfers from this season.
