Nicholas Stafford brings a great deal of quickness and jumping ability to the post position for the Flyers. In his first year of action at UD, Stafford played in 28 games with 12 starts. He was one of 11 players who averaged more than ten minutes a game for the Flyers. He averaged 1.8 points and 2.0 rebounds a game, and was second on the team in blocked shots (11). Last season, Stafford played in seven games, getting his first bucket of the year against St. Bonaventure, and adding one at George Washington. As a freshman, he came off the bench with a huge effort in the Wyoming win. He played 24 minutes (15 more than he played in the entire season to that point) and had a career-high seven points and seven rebounds (he also had seven boards at GW). Versus Akron, Stafford had four points, three rebounds and two blocked shots in 15 minutes, and Stafford played 24 minutes with six points and five rebounds in the win at Rhode Island. He was a unique mid-year recruit in 2003-04; but having missed the pre-season and the first eight games of the season, he was redshirted. A 2003 graduate of Worcester Academy, he joined the University of Dayton basketball program on December 18. After graduating in June and not getting his eligibility initially approved by the NCAA Clearinghouse, Stafford filed an appeal. While waiting for the appeal to be heard, he enrolled as a part-time student at Springfield (MA) Technical Community College. When the appeal was successful, Stafford was cleared to play NCAA Division I basketball and signed with UD. Stafford, a Springfield, Mass. native, was a three-year starter for Worcester Academy where he played for former Dayton assistant coach Mo Cassara. Stafford was the team captain of the 2002-03 Worcester team that went 25-4, won the New England Prep School championship, and was ranked #2 in the nation among prep schools. He is one of nine players on that team who have gone on to Division I basketball. A tremendous athlete, he averaged 10.2 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks a game for Worcester and shot 48% from the floor. He earned Worcester's prestigious Lawson Riley Award as WA's most-improved player. As a junior, Stafford played alongside Craig Smith (now a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves after four seasons at Boston College) and Jarrett Jack (now with the Portland Trailblazers after three seasons at Georgia Tech). Stafford has a brother, Christopher (18) and a sister, Chelsea (16). Nick is the son of Alfred and Elisa Stafford. Career Statistics
