Desmond Adedeji played in 27 games as a freshman, with four starts. He led UD in FG% (.525, 42-80), while averaging 3.6 points and 2.6 rebounds. Adedeji had four double-digit performances as a freshman, and two came against NCAA teams -- 10 at GW and 10 (with a career-high six rebounds) against Northern Iowa. He closed the season by making 22 of his last 38 field goals (.579) over the last 13 games. One of just about a dozen players to ever play on the DeMatha Catholic High School varsity as a freshman, Adedeji, came off the bench that season when the Stags were 32-3 and ranked #8 in the final USA Today Super 25 national rankings. Former Flyer point guard Warren Williams started at point guard for DeMatha that season. After being part of the #8 team in the country as a freshman, Adedeji closed his career in much the same way. The 2004-05 DeMatha team was 29-2 and finished seventh in the final USA Today Super 25 national rankings after being ranked as high as third for much of the year. The Stags only regular-season loss was at the Academy National tournament in Houston at the hands of Westchester High of Los Angeles (Westchester finished ranked second in USA Today's national rankings). The other loss was in the final game of the year at the Alhambra Classic, when DeMatha was upset by Bishop O'Connell, who the Stags had knocked off in the regular season and in the DC Catholic tournament. In between those two games, DeMatha won the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championships, and the DC city championship. The conference title was DeMatha's 33rd in the last 45 years. Adedeji averaged 6.8 points and 7.8 rebounds as his team rolled over its opponents by an average 18.1 point winning margin. DeMatha had 10 wins of 20 points or more, and three of more than 40 points. Despite the modest stats, Adedeji was still ranked the #1 center in the state of Maryland last year, and was selected to play in the Capital Classic and Prince Georges County all-star games. Adedeji was a three-year starter for DeMatha. He moved into the starting lineup as a sophomore, averaging 8.4 points and 9.4 rebounds. DeMatha began the 2002-03 season 8-0, but injuries to three starters (including Adedeji) torpedoed a promising season and the team finished 14-16. Adedeji averaged 12.3 points, 11.7 rebounds and 3.5 blocks as a junior, as the Stags bounced back last year with a 19-11 record. He was named Second Team All-State and Honorable Mention All-DC Metro. Coach Mike Jones has kept DeMatha among the nation's elite programs after the retirement of coaching legend Morgan Wooten. DeMatha had an estimated 20 college prospects spread among its four classes playing basketball in 2004-05. Desmond has a younger brother, Jordan (14) and is the son of Linda Lewis and Alfred Adedeji.
