DAYTON, Ohio - Homestanding Dayton was limited to just three hits and five overall base runners during a 9-0 loss to Xavier in the Atlantic 10 baseball opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon. The Flyers (10-6, 0-1) and Musketeers (5-9, 1-0) will continue their series on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET in a game that can be followed with Gametracker only at www.DaytonFlyers.com. Senior Kevin Miller provided two of Dayton's three hits on a cold and blustery day that featured a 100 minute delayed due to a heavy snow squalls. Miller had a bunt single in the third and an infield single in the ninth to account for two of the Flyers' four base runners on the afternoon. Max Navalinski drew a walk to start the third inning, Marshall MacDonald reached on a fielding error and Jonathan Castine had a pinch hit single for his first collegiate base hit in the ninth as Dayton was retired in order during six of the nine innings during the game. Chris Beesley suffered the loss for Dayton after allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits over 4.0 innings pitched. He struck out one and walked two before being forced out off the mound during the weather delay in the game. Lucas Farden came on after the break and gave up two runs on three hits in 2.0 innings pitched. The senior righty struck out two and walked only one. Jake Hoover finished the day on the mound surrendering four runs, three earned, on three hits over 3.0 innings pitched. |
