FLYERS ROUT CRUSADERS IN SUNDAY'S OPENER, 9-3

DAYTON, Ohio - Homestanding Dayton scored six runs in the first inning on its way to a 9-3 victory over Valparaiso in the opener of a non-conference doubleheader Sunday at Time Warner Cable Stadium. With wins in nine of its last 10 games, UD improved to 9-3 on the season.

Bolstered by a pair of Valpo errors, Dayton scored six runs on four hits in the bottom of the first to take a commanding lead. Cole Tyrell drove in two while Jimmy Roesinger and Jake Hoover each picked up an RBI of their own in the rally

Tyrell finished 2-for-3 with a hit by pitch, a stolen base, two runs scored and two RBI in the game. He was aided by three other multi-hit performances by UD as the Flyers out hit the Crusaders 11-8 despite recording no extra base hits.

Hoover went 2-for-3 with a hit by pitch, a run scored and a RBI. Kevin Miller was also 2-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base while Marshall MacDonald finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI.

Roesinger was 1-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI. Jacob Spaeth (1-for-4), Max Navalinski (0-for-2, HBP) and Ryan Nevill (1-for-4) also scored one run each for the Flyers.

Sophomore Chris Beesley gave up just one run over 4.0 innings pitched to lift his record to 2-1 on the season. He struck out five while surrendering only one walk and three hits on the afternoon.

Willy Balbach gave up on unearned run after throwing 0.2 innings pitched before giving way to Ryan Hill who threw 1.1 innings of scoreless relief with one strikeout.

Freshman Tim Lynn gave up a run on three hits in the seventh inning before closing out the game on the mound for Dayton.
